Sidney Olcott, le premier oeil

In Jerusalem, the new life of the old railway station

If the Jaffa Railway Station from where Olcott and El Kalem does not exist anymore, the way of railway joined Jerusalem follows the same path through Lod, Ramla and the hills of Jerusalem. A journey of about an hour and a half to travel less than 90 km. Arrival is in a new station south of Jerusalem, about ten kilometers from the old town. The old station which led to Hebron Road, less than a kilometer from the walls, was long abandoned.

When I went for the first time in Jerusalem in September 2009, the buildings were severely damaged, tagged, squatted... There were a few sections of track elements docks, nothing on the other hand inside the offices. Side street, the facade was still trying to deceive.

June 2014, the station of Jerusalem has changed. It was renovated as that of Jaffa. She is now a fashionable place with shops, restaurants, souvenir shops... There are some pictures that evoke the days when Olcott frequented places... The main difference with the Jaffa Railway Station : the name of Jerusalem appears in Hebrew gable of the building, below in Latin and Arabic scripts. Abandoned after the creation of Israel, Jaffa Railway Station was not called in Hebrew.
